Records of the Marquette Branch Prison, 1901-1938.

This record group consists of four sets of records of the Marquette Branch Prison, Marquette, Michigan for the years 1901-1938. The first set of records is a record of convicts (1922-37), offering prisoner name, number, name, term of sentence, county or court, sentence and receipt dates, expiration date of short term, date of discharge and crime. The second set of records are description of prisoners (1925-38), including photographs, name, crime, general description, relatives, physical markings, Bertillon measurements, number of children, years in school, personal habits, plus discharge and transfer information. The third set of records is a monthly report concerning paroled prisoners (1911-26). The final set of records are prisoner transfer documents (1901-09), most concerning the transfer from Marquette to the Michigan State Prison in Jackson.
